Each year the Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust (formerly the New Zealand Federation of University Women (Auckland Branch) Charitable Trust) offers the following Awards for women enrolled or planning to enrol at The University of Auckland, the Albany Campus of Massey University, AUT University, Manukau Institute of Technology and Unitec.


1. Tressa Thomas Retraining Awards - up to 40 awards to assist mature women to prepare to return to a profession or to take up work (paid or unpaid) in the community. Value: $1,500 each. Closing dates: 31March and 31 July.

2. New Start Award - one award paid in installments over a six semester period, to assist a women student from the New Start Programme to study towards a degree. Value: $15,000. Closing date: 5 November.

3. Millennium Undergraduates Awards - up to 40 awards to assist women enrolled for full-time study in their first degree or diploma to meet minor expenses associated with their courses.
Value $1,000 each. Closing dates: 31 March and 31 July.

4. Final Year First Degree Award - one award to assist a woman in her final year of study for a first degree.
Value: $5,000. Closing date: 17 December.

5. Bachelor (Honours) Degree Award - one award to assist a woman for the Honours year of study/research for a postgraduate Bachelor (Honours) Degree.
Value: $6,000. Closing date: 17 December.

6. Postgraduate Diploma Award - one award to assist a woman study for a Post-Graduate Diploma.
Value: $6,000. Closing date: 17 December.

7. Masters Degree Awards - one award to assist a woman graduate to carry out research for a Masters Degree at an approved institution in the Auckland area.  In 2009, the award is for research only course of study.
Value: $6,000 each. Closing date: 15 February.

8. Post-Doctoral Research Awards - two awards to assist women who have graduated with a doctoral degree within the last four years to carry out research on a limited term project.
Value: $15,000 each. Closing dates: 28 February and 31 July.

The total value of the above awards, all of which are part of the annual programme, is $175 000 per annum.

In addition to this very comprehensive range of study awards for local students, the Trust also funds the following grants annually to:-

National Executive of The New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women - additional grants ($25 000 in 2005) are made to National Executive to enable that body to fund its own programme of awards.

Discretionary Grants. The Trust reserves the right to make discretionary grants for educational purposes on an as and when appropriate basis.

The Trustees will continue to monitor the value of these awards and to be proactive in introducing new awards, so that the Trust's Funds are used to promote actively the objects and purposes of the Trust Deed.
