Each year the Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust (formerly the New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women (Auckland Branch) Charitable Trust offers the following awards for women enrolled or planning to enrol full time at The University of Auckland, the Albany Campus of Massey University, AUT University, UNITEC, Northland Polytechnic, Te Wananga O Aotearoa (Manukau or Whangarei) or Te Whare Wananga O Awanuiarangi, Auckland.


1. Tressa Thomas Retraining Awards - a number of awards to assist mature women to undertake study in order to return to a profession or take up work (paid or unpaid) in the community.

                       Value:  $1,500 each.                                  Closing dates:  30 March and 27 July.

 

2.  New Start Awards - two awards paid in instalments over a six semester period to assist women students from The University of Auckland New Start Programme to study towards a degree.

                      Value: $18,000 each.                                 Closing date:  11 November.

 

3.  Foundation Awards - a number of awards to assist women, who have completed a Foundation Course totalling 120 points and who have enrolled in full time study for their first degree or diploma to meet course expenses.

                      Value : $1,500 each.                                   Closing date:  17 February.

 

4.  Class Materials Awards  - a number of awards to assist women, who are studying Degree or Diploma courses at an approved institution in the Auckland area which incur high materials' expenditure, with payment of essential costs.

                      Value:  $300 to $1,000 each.                     Closing dates:  30 March and 31 August.

 

5.  Practicum Award - to assist a woman to carry out study for a Bachelor's Degree with a required practicum component. One award will be made for a year of study that requires a student to undertake a practicum which is usually unpaid and involves travel or residence away from home.

                      Value:  $6,000.                                        Closing date:  16 December

 

6.  Final Year Bachelor with Honours Degree Award - one award to assist a woman in her final year of study for a first degree.

                      Value: $6,000.                                         Closing date: 16 December.

 

7.  Postgraduate Diploma Award - one award to assist a woman to study for a Post-Graduate Diploma.

                       Value: $6,000.                                        Closing date: 16 December.

 

8.  Masters' Degree Awards - two awards to assist women for a year of study for a Masters' Degree that includes either Coursework and/or a Research component.

                        Value:  $7,000 each.                                          Closing date:  20 January.

 

9.  Post-Doctoral Research Awards - two awards to assist women who have graduated with a doctoral degree within the last four years to carry out research on a limited term project.

                        Value:  $15,000 each.                             Closing dates:  17 February and 27 July.

Discretionary Grants. The Trust reserves the right to make discretionary grants for educational purposes on an as and when appropriate basis.

The Trustees will continue to monitior the value of its awards and to be procactive in introducing new awards, so that the Trust's funds are used to promote the objects and purposes of the Trust Deed.
